:: Sherbert + Stripes ::

WHEW! It’s hot out. Meaning I’m getting a little crazy creative with my sartorial selections.

I bought this romper at J.Crew a zillion years ago, and honestly never wore it until just recently. However, now it has become a summer time staple. It’s so easy to throw on a statement necklace or swap out a different belt. Of course, you could always throw on every shade of sherbet with it as well…

With this heat wave, my trip to Utah could not be timed more perfectly. My sister has been interning in Park City since May, and has promised me the world’s greatest pizza and lots of downtown shopping. I’ve never been so thrilled to visit a place in the summer which will require a jacket. JACKPOT!

As we were leaving for the Bahamas, I intended to come home with no less than seven blog posts. If it had been a New Year’s resolution, I would have epically failed. If you know me at all, you should know that I am NEVER on time when it comes to being ready – particularly when I think there might be a bit of leeway. Sure, I can make it to all business meetings or other appointments, but from dinners to basketball games, I am always late. Hence: “I’ll be ready in five minutes.”

On one of the seven days we were on vacation, these photos come from the one night I was early. By early, I mean that dinner probably was set for 7:00 and Taylor told me it was at 6:30. If this is true, then after four years, he totally understands how I function! It was so humid that this hair-do became my staple, and now I’ve forgotten how to do anything else. What’s your easy-go-to-up-do?!

:: Thoroughly Modern Millie ::

With a forecast including snow this week, and a very full week(end) at work, you’ll be seeing me out and about in something which lets me move around easily! Hence, a look like this. In my head, if you merge Jackie, Audrey, and Marilyn (did you ever see those three coming?!) into one outfit, this would be it. A sleek black look with oversized sunglasses. A slim, cropped pant with bold flats. Feminine comfort with striking accessories. All in all – a sixties lovin’ gal prancing about the Colcord, post-chocolate brioche french toast filled brunch. Can you imagine why I selected an oversized sweater?!

Jackie O, style icon, dropped jaws when she dared to show bare legs during Easter Mass in Palm Springs. (But did you know she wore those gorgeous gloves to hide the fingernails she bit, and oversized glasses to people watch? She was one of us!!) Audrey Hepburn defied what was culturally accepted as beautiful, donning a pixie haircut and wearing boyish cuts, when ladies wore nothing but skirts. (I truly believe the other Hepburn, Katharine, started the boyfriend jean trend when she selected men’s trousers on a near daily basis. Learn more about her from this book I recently finished.) And Marilyn? We can only hope that fans stop merely admiring her curvy figure and embracing it if their own healthy body allows.

These three had a rawness about them, which is unprecedented. AND speaking of rawness, let’s take a look at this gorgeous gold ring from Lawson Gems! I am so excited to share this beautiful gem with you, particularly because it was ethically sourced. From the surface, it seems very simple and delicate, but upon closer inspection you will notice the inset channels of Topazes lining the edgy finish. I could see any of my favorite style icons wearing it as well, and have been donning it daily. Thank you to Lawson Gems for the lovely gift, and please take a peek at their website here for more amazing finds!

Western Conference that is.

T put our names on the season ticket holder list three years ago, essentially right after we started dating. I didn’t say anything, but in my head I was thinking “is this really that serious?” Guess it was! A few years back, Taylor bought me the jersey of my favorite player, James Harden. I adored that man, and have always loved an underdog. Even if he was being paid millions to be one. The following summer we were at dinner with his family, sister, and now brother-in-law, on the gorgeous patio at SW Steakhouse in Las Vegas. Then, tragedy struck. Knowing we followed the Thunder pretty closely, Luke made the comment that Harden had been traded. Not typically being one for the water works, I started crying hysterically at dinner. Couldn’t even finish my meal. And people – that is hands down, one of the top 3 steaks I’ve had in my life!

Since then, I haven’t been able to allow another jersey into my life, for fear of the NBA being in control of a potentially outdated wardrobe. However, Steven Adams (John Mayer’s look-a-like!)  is slowly sneaking into first place, for his devilish good looks, quite impressive ball skills, and that New Zealand accent that you could listen to all day. This time, I’ll wait until after the Thunder re-sign him though. No need to jinx the handsome fella! Until that day comes, when I can dress up a jersey, I’ll keep playing with the orange and blue color palette. What’s your go to Thunder wear?!
