A few weeks ago I was invited to spend the day at Buffalo Creek Boutique for the Sip N’ Style Tour! I had a great time with Andrea Patrick of Keep ‘N it Haute, the Buffalo Creek gals, and their shoppers.
Here are a few fun outfits I got to play in as I added some Texas flair to my look!
It’s Wednesday, and on Wednesday’ we wear pink… a la Mean Girls.
While I don’t believe that pink has ever made the top of my favorite colors list, I do love the classic, femininity associated with it. As one who made every attempt to be stereotyped early on, I put pink away and tried to be a number of people, hence my irrational style.
My Pinterest seems to have crafted quite the tribute to feathers, frills and the ladies who embody everything pink. So, on this Wednesday, I present – an ode to pink.
This weekend I was creeping around on a Blogger site and by a click of a click, accidentally stumbled upon my first blog. Not my Xanga (thank God that thing bit the dust and deleted itself. Talk about teen angst and bad Abercrombie clothes), but my college blog which covered my random musings, my Christmas and birthday lists (this was pre-Pinterest) and a few highlights from junior/senior year.
I spent the entire afternoon doubled over from laughter – not because I was funny (although, I really did think I was funny), but because it was so good, so bad, and so much… muchier (in the words of the Mad Hatter). It was before I made my way into the real world, when I had the confidence to not only go after my dreams, but that I could achieve each and every dream. Many of those dreams and their timelines have come and gone, and new ones have formed in their places.
This blog was definitely not afraid to vocalize feelings on any subject, and the biggest hot button topic was always in relation to female expectations and norms in society. Enjoy this little blast from the past a la 2010.

I was clicking around on AOL today (I know, I’m the last person on earth still using AOL), and in one of the news sections it displayed a picture of a woman in a peach printed romper with a white blazer and black chain bag.The title? “She’s wearing something guys don’t like.” Immediately I was intrigued, assuming maybe men aren’t fans of women in blazers because it makes us look more masculine. I wasn’t about to agree with them, but after finding the article – I was wrong.
Supposedly, there are 10 summer trends that guys hate. I’m feeling super feministy today, so here they are:
1. Military Inspired Anything
OK…so camo is not the only military inspired option here. What about military buttons on jackets? Is it acceptable if women say they were inspired by MJ and not an M.16? You can have this one though… I don’t currently own camo. (… but the year is 2015 and now I do have a pair of skinny camo pants. BOOM!)
2. The Zipper Dress
He says: “Honestly, unless you’re a genetically gifted South American, this is probably not going to work for you. Yes, yes, I’m dying to pull the zipper down, we’re all dying to pull the zipper down, the whole town wants to pull the zipper down … But to pull this off, you’re either from Copacabana, play bass in a band and have not one but multiple skull tattoos, or you work at a fetish store. Otherwise, you sort of look like a couch cover. ”
I see his point. Why? This is an ugly zipper dress! It looks like it came right out of Frederick’s of Hollywood and you might find it on True Beauty! I apologize for not being a statuesque South African, but seeing hardware on clothing is a trend that has been around for quite some time.
3. Terrycloth
Does anyone wear terrycloth to work, to shop or out on the town? No. The only time I have ever seen a terrycloth dress was near a body of water. It is a brilliant, towel-like invention that will NEVER leave you with a soggy bottomed cover up!
4. Plunging necklines
This fella’s issue with plunging necklines was his hatred for seeing women with nothing up top, therefore exposing the boning in their upper chest. I think they were getting desperate at this point….and it only pertains to women like myself. I get it! I don’t wear them anyways!
5. Rompers
I’ll just be honest…I own at least 10 rompers. The article stated that men do not want to see you looking like a little girl. I NEVER once wore a romper as a child. My mom was too busy trying to get my hair to grow at the age of three in order to put a bow in it that we clearly had bigger issues than romper-ing.
The rest of the article included sandal boots (the kind that show your foot but are more of a flat and boot mixed together), a maxi dress (they want to know what we’re hiding under there – rude), pleated men’s pants (thanks a lot, Annie Hall ) and fringe (what’s wrong with this man?!). Now that they’ve had their say, am I allowed to discuss how they wear shirts with baggy waistbands, cargo shorts and don’t trim their toenails before they wear sandals? Another topic for another day…
