I’ve always considered myself more of a Miss Piggy, but just as the “Gloria Steinem of the Muppet Word,” moi also has a soft spot for Kermit the Frog.
With the turmoil in Baltimore and discussion surrounding the Supreme Court’s hearing today, I can’t help but take a moment to reflect on the challenges a number of people are currently facing. Black, white, gay, police officers, etc. – seems that it actually might be easier to be green today.
Politics, religion, flying spaghetti monsters aside – everyone has a right to their beliefs. Today, you may hate my pants, think my skin needs to be exposed to the light of day, find my writing off-putting or maybe you have something against the Muppets (if this is the case – what’s wrong with you?!), and that’s ok.
This country would not exist without a vast number of beliefs, and will not evolve without those same freedoms. My heart aches for those who do not feel safe or accepted, and for everyone trying to make sense of what tolerance truly means. Life was much easier when there was a Muppet song to help you process your feelings.
