:: Maxed Out ::

So here are a few photos from our first evening in Cabo. That is of course, after a day of Aero Mexico arguments.

Remember when we had an issue with an unbelievable delay? That was not the end of our problems. Taylor sat on the phone with Aero Mexico from the time we hit security until the time we boarded the plane. Since we were not taking the original flight, they intended to cancel our return reservation. It was in that moment that I was very thankful to be dating an attorney (who just telepathically corrected my sentence  to include the phrase “pending his passage of the bar exam.”)

Taylor ensured that we had a flight home, and we spent the rest of our week relaxing, laying out near the pool, reading, and someone of non-hispanic descent (clearly not me) got burned. It’s a different sun down there! Fast forward to the end of our stay, as Taylor tries to check us in to our flights. What a surprise when our reservation did not exist! He then spent the good majority of our last day on the phone with Aero Mexico, with no guarantee that we would be able to board the flight previously purchased.

Fortunately, we were bailed out and flown home. Thank goodness – paradise could have gotten really expensive really quickly!

:: Beach Bum ::

We recently joined some of our friends on a post-bar trip to Cabo san Lucas. Three lawyers and a fashion blogger… you can imagine how fascinating the talk about MPRE questions, essay topics, and misdemeanor manslaughter was….

However, in between that chatter, we had a fantastic time. We were quite uncertain as to whether or not we would actually make it to Cabo. In an effort to save a few dollars, we opted to take Aero Mexico. That was our first mistake. We made it to DFW around 5:30 am and immediately jumped into the 60+ person line. After thirty minutes of not moving an inch, we became concerned COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT and knew we would be missing our flight.

As I held down our place in line, Taylor discovered that our flight was delayed from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, causing us to miss our connecting flight and be completely re-routed. As we began making plans for our day (brunch, nap, lunch, nap, wandering around Dallas, and finally airport), we were given the option of taking the 4:00 flight and a connector which would place us *ever so safely* in Mexico City for a night. Um, no.

We bailed, hopped on a direct American flight, and never looked back. After making it through security, Taylor spent nearly an hour on the phone with Aero Mexico, guaranteeing our return flight would not be cancelled. We arrived in Cabo earlier than expected and went directly to the pool to sample what the swim up bar had to offer.

You should also know that the night before our departure, T bought a Go Pro. Of course I scoffed at the idea, but let me tell you – if there is a man in your life, get him one! He was so entertained the entire time, and now we have loads of photos and video from our life-proof case which floated in the pool most of the day. Between the mojitos and sunburns, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (Except when M+C thought their license/wallet/credit cards were stolen).

We stayed on the side where you’re not allowed to go into the ocean because, you will die. But we couldn’t resist just running down and letting the waves rush over the top of our feet.

Then this happened…

and I got slapped by a massive wave as prince charming filmed it…

and ended up doing what T refers to as my “weird girl run,” which is really the “I’m soaking wet run.”

:: Blogger’s Block ::

Hello my friends!

Long time, no post. However, a lot has been happening and soon we’ll be back on a more regular schedule.

I cannot wait to relay our Mexico vacay (later), but something (other an Aero Mexico issues – again, later) happened in the Dallas airport that really put a bad taste in my mouth. While awaiting our flight, I looked up to see not one , but two fashion bloggers sit down across from me. I had literally started following both of them maybe a week prior, with each having more than 55,000 Instagram followers.

I have 285.

Nonetheless, I was more intrigued by who they were as “normal” people. I felt like a Miss Oklahoma Star (a mentoring program for young girls) as I quietly observed their mannerisms and conversation.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Here were two women who made their lives blogging, writing, photographing, and sharing pieces of their (maybe incredibly staged) days with their followers – making fun of the people who support them. They gawked and “ugghhhhed” over fans inquiring where they got an item, how they didn’t know what Like to Know it was, and generally hating on others. After at least a dozen attempts to Instagram their accessories, they began to board the plane.

Somehow, we were in line directly behind them and it just would not end – they stopped on the jet bridge, required their third wheel (husband of one blogger) to whip out the Nikon, screw on the lens, and take photos of them prior to boarding. This was now annoying everyone behind them, and I questioned why I wanted to be a part of such a high-maintenence world.

In this moment, it all clicked for T. He turned to me and said he had no idea how easy he has it. We only photograph once a week and I buy him brunch and mimosas afterwards. (insert praying hands emoji here)

So, I learned a few valuable lessons that day and had a pretty major reality check. I love blogging and sharing my broke-girl budget style with others. However, I’ll be making an extra effort to be the Glinda of bloggers!

I’ve been traveling for the past week, so blogging was not much of a priority! More on our beach adventure later, but let’s throw back to my time in Utah!

When packing for this trip, I tried to bring as few pieces as possible. Fortunately, this skirt served me well and can be paired with most tops I own. You’ve seen it with stripes, florals, solids, long sleeves, short sleeves, tanks, and just about every color as well. Navy feels like a neutral these days. While I attempted to “pack light,” I am still the person who celebrates when they hit a mere 43 pounds on the luggage scale. That means I can stimulate the local economy with seven pounds worth of findings!

Like a Boy Scout, I am always prepared. Therefore, I have to bring everything but the kitchen sink. Sadly, my Kate Spade bag bit the dust during our trip, so it shall be sent off to *fingers crossed* be mended by the Kate Spade elves. I’ll be adding a toolkit to my next packing list.

:: Kimono You Didn’t ::

While my sister warned me that a heat wave had hit Park City, their heat wave is our early spring. The days could get quite warm, but the nights were fantastic – especially when I could wear pants and a sleeveless top or skirt and long-sleeved shirt with no worries.

During one of our strolls up and down Main Street, I stumbled upon an adorable boutique and my eyes lit up. Right in the center on a mannequin, the fringe swayed back and forth as the air conditioner rumbled. Yep – it was time to add a kimono to my wardrobe. I clearly loved it and wore it that night to dinner, obnoxiously playing with the fringe over and over.

Perhaps it reminds me of another favorite outfit – before matching separates were cool, topped off by a dash of fringe. I left a little gem for my loyal followers at the bottom. Your only way to respond will be “kimono you didn’t!!!”

:: Oppa Gingham Style ::

I absolutely cannot hear the word “gingham” without reminiscing over this song. It made its debut in my second year of teaching, with a group of five-year-olds more hip than their twenty-something teacher. We began using this song as part of “graphics practice,” which teaches students pre-writing skills from correct grip to letter formation. Everything is a game in PreK (if you’re good at it – better actors tend to find the best success), so they would create the formation when the song was playing, and freeze when I trickily paused the music. (Hey-o, fine motor skills, literacy AND self-regulation!)

But once Gangnam Style was introduced as a graphics practice song, I realized that I wasn’t as smart as I thought I was. Students jumped up, markers flew across the room (markers without caps), dry erase boards were tossed, and they were doing dance moves which would make Michael Jackson turn over in his grave. It. Was. Unreal. So, Gangnam Style has a special place in my heart (and a lot of data of dancing kiddos acting a fool on my phone).

Last week we visited my sister in Park City, Utah where I was unprepared (but overpacked) for the weather and even more so for the allergies which persisted. It is a beautiful place, and this Main Street is seriously the cutest. It rivals Solvang – I know, hard to believe! The days were VERY warm (although not humid), and the evenings were a bit chilly. It was a wonderful escape from the air which is currently trying to strangle me here in Oklahoma. I found myself layering a lot, and loved dressing for spring-like weather, since we often go from snow to pool in our neck of the woods!

When asked where I was headed at Salt Lake City’s local Lush counter (my skin started flaking the minute I stepped off the plane), I told the salesgirl and she replied with “Oh, ritzy.” But only after getting in my bubble, slathering three scrubs on my hands, and tangling my arm hair with some crazy lotion bar. When she pulled out the purple shampoo, we headed for the hills mountains. Who needs “ritzy” Gangnam Style?

:: Don’t Quilt Your Daydream ::

If you were to ask me what one quality I possess which is both invigorating and devastating, it is my belief that absolutely nothing is impossible.

Whether it was in my PreK classroom, some lofty college aspirations, potential business endeavors, or the search for the perfect fitting boyfriend jeans – I just can’t accept “no.” Perhaps that is also because my generation of millennials are a group who feel entitled, didn’t hear “no” enough as a child, or earned a participation ribbon when they should have just straight up learned a lesson about losing.

Whatever it is, it’s gotten me through some incredible rough patches of life and given me hope that my insane visions could be a reality. It has also created false hope when God decided another path or opportunity was better, but wasn’t quite ready to ready to reveal what that might be. He definitely has a sense of humor, right?!

So the lesson of today’s post is – you can wear a fabulous quilted dress, but most certainly – never “quilt” your daydream.

P.S. I was told this dress couldn’t be altered. LIES!
