:: Mellow Yellow ::

We are still on vacation photos… because we can. My favorite day in Cabo was the day that we did absolutely nothing. Seriously – nothing!

After breakfast with our favorite waiter, we headed out to the pool to be the wildest people there. If you know the four of us, you clearly understand that we collectively average about eighty-five (years-old) when it comes to the party scale. Mojitos in hand, we recorded ourselves on the GoPro, talked about the bar exam (oh, well… three of the four did), and sampled everything the swim up bar had to offer. Someone really enjoyed the hot dogs rather than fresh fish tacos, but he shall remain unnamed…

At seven, we realized that we were hungry again, but had no desire to put any effort into our looks. Therefore, we opted for the al fresco buffet. Sitting in wet swimsuits, we again ate like kings because – ALL INCLUSIVE! We hit the hot tub and listened to a local band sing incredible covers of American songs where all the letter j filled songs were silent.

It was awesome.

:: Beach Bum ::

We recently joined some of our friends on a post-bar trip to Cabo san Lucas. Three lawyers and a fashion blogger… you can imagine how fascinating the talk about MPRE questions, essay topics, and misdemeanor manslaughter was….

However, in between that chatter, we had a fantastic time. We were quite uncertain as to whether or not we would actually make it to Cabo. In an effort to save a few dollars, we opted to take Aero Mexico. That was our first mistake. We made it to DFW around 5:30 am and immediately jumped into the 60+ person line. After thirty minutes of not moving an inch, we became concerned COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT and knew we would be missing our flight.

As I held down our place in line, Taylor discovered that our flight was delayed from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, causing us to miss our connecting flight and be completely re-routed. As we began making plans for our day (brunch, nap, lunch, nap, wandering around Dallas, and finally airport), we were given the option of taking the 4:00 flight and a connector which would place us *ever so safely* in Mexico City for a night. Um, no.

We bailed, hopped on a direct American flight, and never looked back. After making it through security, Taylor spent nearly an hour on the phone with Aero Mexico, guaranteeing our return flight would not be cancelled. We arrived in Cabo earlier than expected and went directly to the pool to sample what the swim up bar had to offer.

You should also know that the night before our departure, T bought a Go Pro. Of course I scoffed at the idea, but let me tell you – if there is a man in your life, get him one! He was so entertained the entire time, and now we have loads of photos and video from our life-proof case which floated in the pool most of the day. Between the mojitos and sunburns, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (Except when M+C thought their license/wallet/credit cards were stolen).

We stayed on the side where you’re not allowed to go into the ocean because, you will die. But we couldn’t resist just running down and letting the waves rush over the top of our feet.

Then this happened…

and I got slapped by a massive wave as prince charming filmed it…

and ended up doing what T refers to as my “weird girl run,” which is really the “I’m soaking wet run.”

:: Pink and Red ::

As an almost Valentine’s Day baby, pink and red have always been my colors. I never cared that it was a “Hallmark Holidays,” because it was a double celebration for me! There was always a party at school with crafts, cupcakes, and Valentine’s Cards. This meant we were allowed to break out the glitter (some years….) and Elmer’s Glue the life out of that paper sack, until nothing more could fit on the front. Always craving another opportunity to be creative, this was a shining moment in my year. I obviously loved receiving candy necklaces and like anyone else, picking out the best tasting Candy Hearts (clearly not the white and green ones – ew).

Plus, this holiday celebrates finding your one twue wuv. From a very early age, I envisioned exactly what this stranger would be like – a man with Fred Astaire’s feet and George Clooney’s charm, of course. After growing up with crushes on men like Rhett Butler, Cary Grant and the occasional character from All My Children, anyone would have their work cut out for them!

While this time of year is the only acceptable time for some to watch rom com’s and don the pink/red combination, that is an everyday occasion for me! This color blocked, borderline tone-on-tone look is a definite favorite. If pink and red year-round is wrong, then I’ll just NEVER be right!

Happy Valentine’s Day – especially to my favorite photographer!

I’ve worn a lot of pants in my life. From sequins to fringe, bell bottoms to boyfriends, and leather to custom painted (these really exist – TWO pairs), I’ve tried just about every style. However, this new trend is by far my favorite. Not only do these pants have the holy grail of all clothing items – pockets (isn’t it the absolute worst when pants psych you out with the itlaysflatterbecauseitdoesnthavearealpocket thing?), they have everything else you could ever want. A wild print, plus eye-catching neons, and a lightweight fabric so moveable that I may just wear them daily. And to bed. And back to work again. No shame.

To top it off? A STRETCHY WAISTBAND!

If you are a donut-loving, pizza-eating, cookies-n-cream craving gal like me, you’ll appreciate a pair of pants that are not just stylish, but can be worn on the most delicious of Thanksgiving Days. After my healthy eating kick (no, I’m not the resolution type – but the holidays are too busy to take proper care of myself), I’m already looking forward to that glorious day when I can pig out. Until then, you’ll be seeing me pretend to be sporty in these fancy joggers and sweating like Richard Simmons in the gym downstairs! But most definitely not both at once. That just wouldn’t be right!

And like that, a paper doll jail-bird was born. Well, born about twenty-four years ago. I’ve always loved fashion – the fabric, embellishments, and most importantly – how wearing something you love can put you in a totally different mood. It’s like ice cream, but less fattening.

I suppose I really have my sister to thank for my passion – the first time I ever selected my own outfit was the day she was born. It was in that moment that I opted to tell a teensy weensy white lie to the neighbor that I was allowed to dress myself. You think I threw on something wild like my ballet leotard with silver, glittered cowboy boots and a pony tail? No. Although, I would have beaten Lady Gaga to the punch if I had. I donned an outfit which said “big sister” but “totally teenage Barbie.” Clearly, this meant a white jean skirt with a purple top and matching, embellished white jean vest. An obvious choice for a five-year-old.

As I grew older, I was taught the value of a dollar – and how far that dollar would go if you were a savvy shopper who could “dig.” This served me well as I spent two years teaching preschool with Teach For America. I was constantly on the look out for inexpensive, dispensable wardrobe items, to be stained by homemade play-doh, markers that aren’t as washable as they claim, and bodily fluids which were not my own. This is part of closing the achievement gap, and if I had more energy and a place to call home, I would have followed those little buggers until they graduated high school.

This blog has been my dream ever since I began stalking following Blair Eadie and telling everyone I know that she could totally be my sister. But for real – don’t you see the resemblance? We’re just off by a few inches, a few pounds, and a few 0’s at the end of our paychecks. I hope you enjoy some aspect of this – whether it’s my rambling ways or the photos which cost me brunch, and an afternoon of cheering on fantasy football players. Welcome!
