:: I Plaid the Fifth ::

There is something about a plaid skirt that just says “holidays.” I feel like I can never break this one out until we begin approaching the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year’s trifecta!

When it comes to mixing prints and patterns, I think we all know where I stand. Some believe there is a formula to doing this – I believe it’s our inner five-year-old intuition breaking free of the adult norms we hold against ourselves on a daily basis.

In sixty years I’m sure the grandkids will be teleporting back and forth and happen upon this old thing called the internet with my virtual closet from years long gone. When they ask, in their Hunger Games inspired futuristic world wear, what on Earth (or by that time, Mars) I was thinking…

Well, I’ll just have to plaid the fifth!

:: Mix it Up ::

Growing up, everything had an outfit. We trekked to Dallas to be dressed up at Animal Crackers, as my dad sat in the single multi-colored chair outside the dressing rooms, clutching his calculator and deciding which outfits and matching accessories would come home with us. It was so simple to dress back then – you knew what went together, no doubts about it. Sometimes, simple is the best way, but I was so elated to wear this skirt for a night out that I was overthinking what to pair it with. A plain black top? Statement necklace? Bright heels? Lamb sweatshirt?

And then I remembered my leopard peplum top. Yes. How could I have made it so difficult? I tucked it into the skirt, layered three shades of pink MAC lipstick (because I think I am a mean mixologist – ooh and because their lipstick just smells so amazing), and headed downstairs. As we snapped a few photos on the way to dinner (bummer the lighting isn’t better!), even my manfriend said this was a new favorite outfit of his. Winner, Winner, Chicken┬áSteak Dinner.
