Weddington Way | Fourth of July

Weddington Way has a number of amazing bridesmaid dress styles and inspired me to create a style board based on a Fourth of July wedding with their selection.

I was most excited because my parents actually got married on July Fourth, so I grew up celebrating their wedding while also celebrating America. There were always red, white and blue treats, more fireworks than the city limits could imagine, and lots of pool time.

Plus, I’m also a gal who loves a good theme – so bring it on!

Believe it or not, this is 1987 – how fashionable is that peplum on my mom and her Maid of Honor? Plus, the off the shoulder look? Absolutely love it. I’ll be re-inventing this gown for my own wedding weekend!

And while we are giving a nod to the past, here’s a great photo of their cake.

Multiple tiers, and the fountain in the center? Seriously – Karen knew what she was doing!

So how do you translate a fabulous Fourth of July wedding to modern-day nuptials? Simple!

No really, simplicity!

I chose a gorgeous, crimson Weddington Way bridesmaid dress based on the stylings of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Classic, structured lines with a subtle, modern sleeve. The bow in the front ties it all together! It is so lovely that few accessories are needed, and it is a style that can be worn to a luncheon, wedding, shower, and more.

In thinking through the right accessories, I saw fireworks when I found these Oscar de la Renta tassel earrings. They have the perfect amount of glamour and movement to make your maids not just look like Jackie O, but feel like Jackie O.

Shoes you ask? Shoes I give you! There are two aspects to keep in mind if wearing a shorter bridesmaid dress – you want to elongate your legs, and be able to walk in them! As a former pageant contestant, my eyes immediately went to this pair of Stuart Weitzman heels. This is a shoe you can wear again and again, and will look three inches taller, not because of the height, but because of the ability to blend your leg and foot.

For flowers? Anemones, of course! These are among my favorites with their little nod of color in the center which often takes on a bluish-blackish hue. The secret to having a Fourth of July wedding is in not going over the top, but just giving a hint here and there.

Let’s dress the fellas while we’re at it! What man wouldn’t look smashing in this custom blue drillino suit from J. Hilburn? It is the perfect shade to contrast next to the Weddington Way bridesmaid dresses, with a fit that is to die for.

And finally, favors. Nothing is more American then freedom, baseball and Coca-Cola, so gift your guests with a tiny treat of a mini Coke!

Fourth of July

How would you style an Americana-themed wedding? Any favorites you have seen before?

Father’s Day Gift Guide 2014

Have you ever read The Five Love Languages book? I have always loved to give gifts, often as an act of service to thank someone for doing something special or to celebrate a big occasion. Even my friend Libby says that I am so talented when it comes to thoughtful tokens of appreciation (and maybe get a little too overzealous when receiving them too) that I should be a professional Gift Giver.

As a special gift to my readers, I’m bringing you a peek into what I consider to be excellent Father’s Day gifts – most are even Carlos approved!

Father's Day 2014 Gift Guide

1// James Bond Giftset 2// The Ultimate Beer Brewer’s Starter Day 3// J.Hilburn Custom Menswear 4//As Seen On TV’s Stufz 5// Money Soap 6// Wine Fridge 7// Personalized Golf Balls

1. James Bond Giftset – Do I even need to explain this? Whether he is more like Clark Griswold or Pierce Brosnan, he will appreciate the entire collection of Bond, James Bond.

2. Beer Brewing Class – For one Father’s Day, we sent my dad off to a beer brewing class – and he was hooked. In fact, he loved it so much, that he gets together with his buddies and brews beer all the time. It’s a fun hobby, and his beer is awesome!

3. J. Hilburn Custom Menswear – When a friend asked if T would be interested in custom designed and cut menswear, I knew he would love it, so I joined the team! (Shameless Plug!) The clothing includes custom suits and shirts, plus a huge collection of ready to wear ties, cufflinks, polos, jeans, etc. at the same price point as Nordstrom’s or Dillard’s, but with the quality of Armani. After taking 15 measurements to ensure a perfect fit, I will work with you and the stylish (or not so fashion savvy) man in your life, to select everything from the collar style to the fabric. No more puffy waists or tight collars!

4. Stufz – You know those As Seen on TV commercials? My parents love them. I went home and my dad whipped up a three cheese stuffed burger with this gadget, and people – it was delicious! Think of the endless possibilities and creativity involved in crafting the perfect burger. This is a winner!

5. Money Soap – I bought my dad and Taylor’s dad this fun soap for Christmas. My dad immediately cut into his and found $1. Taylor’s dad used the soap for nearly a year, and found – $1. I suppose sometimes patience does not pay off, but they both got a kick out of it!

6. Wine Fridge – Because – life! This is the gift that keeps on giving. Every wino needs a place to store their treasured wines, and Wine Enthusiast has an incredible selection. Add that to my wish list as well….

7. Personalized Golf Balls – For the golfer with a sense of humor. We ordered these (exactly as pictured above) for Taylor’s dad, and he loved them. Sure, the guy is a scratch golfer – which made the golf balls that much more hilarious!

What’s the best gift you have given dad? I’m always looking for new inspiration to take my gift game to the next level!
