:: Leopard is a Neutral ::

Good morning! I’ve been up since 4:30 am (boo!), but all for a good reason – off to sunny San Diego to see one of my oldest friends, and my role model growing up, get married! Though it was pitch black and maybe forty-nine degrees in Oklahoma City this morning, we’re looking forward to highs in the upper seventies. This ought to thaw out our weather-shocked bodies in no time!

I know I said black is my favorite color, but leopard is a close second. It’s a neutral, according to Jenna Lyons (President and Creative Director of J.Crew), and I couldn’t agree more. Though you can pair it with basically anything, It can be tricky to find the right leopard pieces, without looking like you stepped out of a Limited Too catalogue. (Is that still around? Or did Justice take over the little people population? My PreK students LOVED those bedazzled shirts!) One must be strategic in their leopard selection – and when I saw this pair of linen leopard shorts, I knew I couldn’t leave J.Crew without them. They really do have THE best customer service. And I’m not just saying that because my best friend was a personal shopper at J.Crew throughout college. Though they were on the sale rack, and not a pair in my size to be found, a pair was ordered, I still received my discount and they were shipped to me FOR FREE! Clearly, leopard lady dreams DO come true!

:: Tough Florals ::

Once upon a time, my really thoughtful boyfriend sent me flowers for my birthday. Gorgeous lilies and blue irises. I placed them in my small apartment, watering them daily, and throwing in ice cubes because my mom swears they last longer. Karen is usually right about these kinds of things. First, my throat started itching. No big deal РI taught preschool. Happened all the time. Then, I lost my voice. I was so confused, but Karen hit the nail on the head РI was allergic to lilies. That was in February 2012 and T is still apprehensive about sending flowers to me on any occasion. Bummer.

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a flowers kind of girl. Does this mean I hate them? Um, no – it just means I would rather spend $10 on my Starbucks Gold Card, since the extra caramel pumps in my latte are no longer free, than see watch something wilt in my living room.

Luckily, these flowers don’t die. They can hang in my closet ALL year!

I love mixing pieces which don’t seem like they would really belong. The combination of florals and faux leather (I love animals, and it’s really hot here) could be used in so many different ways, and I don’t see it every going out of style. I mean, I’ve heard stories of girls going through rush in their Laura Ashley floral dresses. We’re seeing a floral trend pop back up for Spring (and luckily – Fall florals as well!), and when done correctly – can really grow on you. How will you take your florals into Fall?
